SHLN Workshop - Hoarding

This course will provide information on the various causes behind why people might hoard, including experiencing homelessness, depression, trauma, cognitive abilities, and more. Through real world examples, participants will learn how to identify the difference between collection, clutter, accumulation, etc., as well as understanding the myths and statistics of hoarding behaviors. Participants will gain insight into determining if there is a need for treatment and what treatment options are available. Additional topics covered will include an overview of laws that can impact hoarding behavior and what options landlords, mangers, owners, social workers, and other onsite staff have when dealing with hoarding behavior.

Dee Amundson, PSC, Director of People & Culture, MJ Housing Services

Dee holds a BA in Sociology with a minor in Psychology and has completed over 1.5 years of a Master’s Degree in Counseling Education through Adams State University. She has been working with families, older adults, and those with disabilities since 2009. Her experience includes working at a mental health center, Veteran’s nursing home, assisted living facility, and multiple low-income apartment complexes in the state of Colorado. Dee was a Resident Service Coordinator for almost 12 years, received her Professional Service Coordinator certification in 2012 and served as the President of the American Association of Service Coordinators Colorado Chapter for 5 years before moving into her current position as Director of People & Culture at MJ Housing & Services. In addition, Dee was the Occupancy Specialist and acting Assistant Property Manager for over 2 years at a low-income senior apartment complex, giving her the unique opportunity to resolve housing concerns from both Service Coordination and Property Management perspectives. Dee has presented on various housing topics for local organizations and at national conferences including the American Association of Service Coordinators, American Society on Aging, and National Adult Protective Services Association nationwide conferences.
