SAN DIEGO HOUSING FEDERATION ANNOUNCES NEW PARTNERSHIP WITH THE NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL AND JPMORGAN CHASE TO LAUNCH TRAINING ACADEMY FOR EMERGING DEVELOPERS OF COLOR AND WOMEN

SAN DIEGO, CA -- San Diego Housing Federation is proud to announce the launch of the Supporting Empowered Emerging Developers (SEED) Academy, to support the growth and capacity building of emerging Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) and women professionals in real estate development.

The SEED Academy curriculum is developed in collaboration with affordable housing development experts, and seeks to build the foundation of knowledge needed for BIPOC and women professionals to confidently and successfully move into the real estate development industry.

“There are other programs out there that provide training to people who want to be real estate developers. What makes NDC's SEED Academy unique is that we teach our emerging developers the financial nuts and bolts of the development process,” says Jackie Gorman, Senior Director of NDC SEED Academy. “At the end of our program, they will be able to put pencil to paper and get a good sense of the financial feasibility of a project. They will have a basic understanding of the resources that are available to finance their projects and how to access those resources. By creating a national network of BIPOC developers, we hope to facilitate knowledge sharing and perhaps incubate some partnerships.”

San Diego Housing Federation was selected to assist with the program launch in San Diego and will serve as the liaison for the Steering Committee and student cohort outreach. The Steering Committee will assist in developing a program tailored to San Diego’s specific development environment, as well as solicit mentors and sponsors to assist the program’s Capstone project.

“San Diego Housing Federation is excited to partner in launching the SEED Academy for local professionals. With less than 2% of development firms being Black-led, SEED Academy is an opportunity to infuse greater equity into the affordable housing trade sector.” - Sarah Buchanan, San Diego Housing Federation Executive Vice President

The deadline for applications to join this year’s cohort is June 16th. For more information, including how to apply, please visit www.housingsandiego.org/developers-of-color-program or contact Sarah Buchanan at sarah@housingsandiego.org
