Award Nominations Due
Monday |

Nominations for the Federation's Annual Affordable
Housing and Community Development Awards must be
received by 5 p.m. Monday. Awards will be given in 13
categories (assuming nominations). They are
intended to recognize exceptional affordable home
development and individuals who provide outstanding
leadership and service to the industry.
Take a minute to think about who has done something
that really made a difference to your affordable housing
program or who provided outstanding assistance in
developing a recent project. Who stood out as your
advocate or went beyond what you expected in the design,
construction, approval, funding or any other aspect of
your development? The nomination criteria are here.
The Awards will be presented Thursday, June

Water Conservation Seminar
Tuesday |
The San Diego County Apartment Association's annual
EXPO will include a one-hour seminar on "Water
Conservation: A Green Practice that Will Save You
Green." It begins at 1 p.m.. Speakers are Teresa
Penunuri, San Diego County Water Authority; Jason
Stewart, Park West Landscape Mainatenance; Spenser
Bemus, Bemus Lanscape, Inc. and Ryan Arroyo, My
Water Future. Attendees will learn how to
conserve water in multifamily homes and how to avoid
penalties for exceeding new drought limits. EXPO
attendees and seminar participants register in Exhibit
Hall B of the SD Convention Center. The SDCAA non-member
fee is
$10.

CDLAC Applications Due May
22 |
The California Debt Limit Allocation Committee has
announced critical dates for July 22, 2009 Allocation
Meeting for the non-competitive application process for
Qualified Residential Rental Projects (QRRP) and Single
Family Housing (SFH). Applications are due May 22.
The Committee considers only complete applications. For

ULI Smart Growth Awards

The Urban Land Institute will hold its annual Smart
Growth Awards program Thursday, May 14 from 5:30 p.m. to
8:30 p.m. at Wonderhaus, 14th and L Street, Downtown San
Diego. The Keynote Speaker is Dr. Richard Farson, a
psychologist, author and educator, and president of the
Western Behavioral Sciences Institute. His new book, The
Power of Design: A Force for Transforming Everything,
calls for an expanded role for design professionals to
address our global society's most pressing needs.

Funding Update
Roundtable June 4 |
The next Affordable Housing Roundtable is Thursday,
June 4 at NTC Command Center. The topc is "Show Me
the Money: Up to Date Information on Funding
Affordable Homes". Plan to hear the latest on tax
credits, new state Prop 1C program allocations, funding
for the state Multifamily Housing Program, and other
glimmers of hope for creative financing for below
market-rate developments. Registration and a continental
breakfast begin at 7:30 with the seminar scheduled from
8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. It is sponsored by the
Corporation for Supportive Housing. Registration

Sustainability Workshop May
19-20 |
A new two-day Sustainability workshop will provide
valuable tools and strategies for local public officials
eager to learn how they can leverage more sustainable
development practices in their communities. It
is being offered May 19 and 20 at the New
School of Architecture and Design.
The workshop, which is offered in conjunction with
the Urban Land Institute, includes definitions,
measurements, case studies, and group exercises that
focus on best practices and the most effective role that
public officials can play in creating more sustainable
communities while enhancing constituents' quality of

Voucher Funding Audio Conference

On Wednesday, May 20, 2:00 to 3:00 pm (EST), the
Center on Budget and Policy Priorites will host a public
audioconference on housing voucher funding for 2009 and
2010. In the call, Center policy analysts will
discuss the implementation of 2009 funding for vouchers,
the President's proposed voucher budget for 2010, and
their potential impact on housing agencies and
low-income families. More information on the
audioconference will be provided in forthcoming email

Healthy Homes Summit May
28 |
San Diego Healthy Homes Legislative Summit is
scheduled May 28, 2009. Rebecca Morley, Executive
Director of the National Center for Healthy Housing,
will will be the keynote speaker and there will also be
a presentation about San Diego efforts to attract
funding for local healthy homes projects. It will be
held from 1-3:30 p.m. at the "Green Building"
Auditorium, 9601 Ridgehaven Court, San Diego 92123
The California Breathing asthma program at the
California Department of Public Health will host a
statewide healthy housing symposium in June titled
"Healthy Housing for California". For more

NSP |

The City of Costa Mesa is looking for a qualified
non-profit to run a Neighborhood Stabilization Program
foreclosure acquisition project. They want an
organization with internal capacity and experience
since program funds must be committed by December
